METHODS

Leakage tests

Leakage tests are performed to detect leaks and other leaks in pipelines, non-pressure or pressure tanks.

Description of tightness testing methods

  • The tested element is dried in a vacuum ,
  • Gas (helium or hydrogen) is injected into the element being tested.
  • Appropriate devices in individual welds of the element check its tightness (if the element is leaking, the gas detector will indicate an increased PPM value of the given test gas)

Helium
Helium is used for research. This is the most accurate research method.
Hydrogen
Hydrogen is used for research.

Scope of tightness tests

  • Pipelines
  • Bottoms of storage tanks
  • Pressure installations
  • Internal floating roofs

Due to environmental standards that must be met by e.g. fuel depots, hydrocarbon vapor measurements should be carried out in the event of suspected leakage of installation/tank components.
